Reclaimed Private Garden

This project was done during a renovation of a century home. Renovation projects often give us a lot more information about the property and what it needs. We knew going in that drainage was going to be key and that everything that we wanted to accomplish needed to work around a very natural looking dry creek bed. The client wanted a dining area for entertaining, a separate seating area around a firepit and privacy from the surrounding neighbors and the bustling town. They had a clear aesthetic they were looking for and wanted to integrate some of the reclaimed materials from their renovation in the landscape.

The walkway and patios were created with small riverstone and bordered with reclaimed cobblestone from the property. We acquired reclaimed curb stones to create the steps into the house. We created a stacked stone raised bed of boxwood, butterfly bushes and lavender outside the sunroom. A gas line fire pit was built with reclaimed materials from the property and some additional material that we acquired to match. The planting really elevates this design; we planted boxwood, viburnum, river birch and a japanese maple. We used giant arborvitae to create a natural privacy fence between the property and the outside world. Assorted soft perennials were added like astilbe, hosta, phlox, roses and english ivy to finish the planting. The outcome was nothing short of magical. A gated sanctuary garden in the heart of a bustling village that you never want to leave.
